I was only three years into my real estate career when I had one of the most unexpected listing appointments of my life.
I sat across from the sellers at their kitchen table, walking them through comps, strategy, and timelines. I was in the zone, professional, prepared, hoping I was making a good impression. And then, mid-sentence, it happened.
Out walked the cat.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: Okay… and?
But here’s the thing. This cat never comes out. Like, ever.
She didn’t just make a cameo. She jumped up on the table, sauntered over, and – no joke – laid on my arm. Right there. Full weight. Settled in like I was her long-lost human.
The sellers looked at each other. Then looked at me. Their eyes went wide.
I froze.
“Is everything okay?” I asked. “Do you want me to go back over the numbers? Did I miss something?”
I was ready to regroup, sure I’d said something off, sure I’d fumbled the presentation. But instead, they smiled and said:
“We want to list with you.”
That was it. No follow-up questions. No objections. Just a quiet, powerful decision made in the middle of a moment I couldn’t have planned if I tried.
Later, they told me the cat never leaves her hiding spot during company. That she was their unofficial energy reader. Her appearance was the sign they didn’t know they were waiting for.
And here’s the wild part…
It’s not the only time it’s happened.
Another cat once stared me down for minutes during a listing photo shoot. Just locked eyes from across the island while the seller watched silently from the hallway. (Let me tell you, those were the longest minutes of my life.)
And during a showing? One appeared like a silent judge from behind a curtain and followed me room to room like I was being interviewed for the role of “most trustworthy human.”
What does it all mean?
I don’t know. Maybe nothing. Maybe everything.
But if I had to guess?
I think animals, like people, sense calm. They sense presence. They sense energy that’s not rushed, not pushy, not transactional.
Maybe that’s what they’re responding to.
Because while I might not be the flashiest or loudest person in the room, I show up fully. I listen deeply. I care hard. I bring strategy and softness. And whether you believe in signs or not, I think that kind of presence makes people, and apparently, cats, feel safe. So, if your pet picks me?
I’ll consider it a cosmic green light.
But even if they don’t, I’ll still show up the same way; steady, strategic, and ready to make your next move the right one.
