More Than Square Footage: What Home Really Means to Me

Recently, someone asked me a seemingly simple question:
“What does home mean to you?”

I had to sit with it.
Not because I didn’t know the answer…
But because there were so many.

Yes, homes are investments.

They’re stepping stones, financial vehicles, and sometimes even part of a bigger plan.
(I once had a client who bought and sold every two years, we used that rhythm to help her pay off student loans. And she did it. We high-fived on the front porch the day her last check cleared.)

But the essence of home?
That lives deeper. Beyond the floorplan. Beyond the price point.

To me, home is the stage for the story of our lives.

It’s where we raise our kids, have the hard conversations, and feel peace when the world outside is anything but peaceful.

It’s where I’m raising my boys. Where we belly-laugh in the kitchen, slam doors in teenage frustration (we’re getting there), and circle back for forgiveness in the hallway. It’s where we practice being human, together. Safely. Honestly.

I believe the walls of a home carry energy. They hold things. They remember.
They’ve overheard whispered prayers and unexpected apologies.
They’ve stood still through job changes, heartaches, celebrations, and countless Sunday dinners.
They’ve seen your growth, your grieving, your grit.
They’ve felt your becoming.

That’s why I have such a soft spot for first-time homebuyers and boomers.

For the first-time buyer, home is a canvas. The start of a chapter they’ve dreamed of. It’s freedom, stability, hope, and the beginning of something uniquely theirs.

For the boomer ready to downsize, it’s a gentle goodbye to the place that has held decades of milestones, babies, breakups, renovations, recoveries. It’s never just a house. It’s the backdrop to a lifetime.

We’ve all said things like, “Not in my home,” or “One day, I’ll create the kind of home I deserved.”

Because home is emotional. It’s personal. It’s sacred.
It reflects who we are, what we’ve survived, and what we’re still becoming.

So, when people ask me what home means to me…

It means safety.
It means roots and wings.
It means the freedom to grow and the grace to rest.
It means everything.

And that’s why I do this work the way I do… because I’m not just helping people buy and sell houses.

I’m helping them find a place where life unfolds.
